The Asuka Region is a historic cultural area located in southern Nara Prefecture, including Asuka Village, Kashihara City, Sakurai City, and Takatori Town.

Known as the birthplace of ancient Japan, this region became the political and spiritual center of the Japanese nation more than 1,400 years ago during the Asuka Period (592–710).

Many of Japan’s earliest emperors ruled from this area, where important foundations of Japanese culture, Buddhism, architecture, and government were established.
